Paul Luzio is Professor of Molecular Membrane Biology and Master of St Edmund's College. In his research he aims to understand the mechanisms by which proteins are targeted to specific sites in healthy cells and how these mechanisms sometimes fail and cause disease.

The CIMR was founded in 1998 and is a cross-departmental institute providing a platform for medical research. The CIMR provides laboratory and specialist services to the research teams, which extend over a broad range of medical disciplines. There are over 250 scientists based in the Institute, divided into over 40 research groups.
