Hamish Falconer was a second year student in Social and Political Sciences at St John's College. For a weekend each year Cambridge University Amnesty International stages a demonstration outside King's College to raise awareness of the plight of a particular prisoner of conscience by incarcerating students in a cage.
In 2006, as for the previous two years, the Prisoner of Conscience was Thet Win Aung, a Burmese student imprisoned in 1998 for 59 years for organising peaceful student protests.
Thet Win Aung died in prison the day after this photograph was taken.
